Historically engine mounts were made of metal and rubber but increasingly, on modern cars engine mounts are hydraulic and some are even controlled electronically and can adjust their stiffness depending on the driving mode selected. Worn engine mounts can make a car more difficult to drive when letting out the clutch, they can make the car jump out of gear and can damage other components such as the exhaust system.
