Today’s vehicles have an electronic ignition system, but classic cars (virtually every car built in Britain before 1980) have a mechanical ignition system with points, condensers and a distributor. The distributor is the nerve center. It triggers the ignition coil to generate a spark exactly when needed and directs that spark to the proper cylinder. If your classic car won’t start or the engine turns over but won’t catch or the car runs rough and misfires, all could signal a distributor problem, including points and condensers.
